Role of insulin resistance and insulin action in polycystic ovary syndrome: a concept review

چکیده

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a highly prevalent endocrine-metabolic illness that has alarmingly high rates of infertility and other significant effects on the health women. This review study highlighted Insulin appears to damage every part hypothalamus-hypophysis-ovary axis, insulin resistance in ovarian tissue leads impaired metabolic signalling but intact mitogenic steroidogenic activity, favouring hyperandrogenemia, which thought be primary cause clinical symptoms PCOS. also enumerates briefly summarize research methods related PCOS, including molecular mechanism action anabolic processes stimulate cell growth differentiation; increase protein fat storage; binding between α, β dimers receptors surface results alteration gene expression, metabolism growth.

Insulin Resistance and Polycystic Ovary Syndrome.

BACKGROUND Insulin resistance and the associated compensatory hyperinsulinemia are common findings in women with PCOS, and may play a key role in this condition. METHODS In this article, we focused on the significance of insulin resistance in PCOS, reviewing the available literature on epidemiology, pathogenesis, pathophysiology and treatment of this condition. RESULTS It has been estimated...

Obesity and insulin resistance in women with polycystic ovary syndrome.

OBJECTIVE To evaluate the impact of obesity and various phenotypes of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) on the insulin sensitivity index (ISI) and insulin resistance (IR). METHODS ISI and IR from 273 women in four phenotypes of PCOS and control groups were evaluated retrospectively. RESULTS The ISI and the percentage of IR were not significantly different among discrete phenotypes of PCOS gr...

Abnormal Glucose Tolerance and Insulin Resistance in Polycystic Ovary Syndrome

Background Insulin resistance and glucose dysmetabolism in polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) are related with the polymorphisms in the genes encoding the insulin receptor substrate (IRS) proteins, especially Gly972Arg/Ala513Pro polymorphism being reported to be associated with type-2 diabetes and PCOS. We intended to assess the prevalence of abnormal glucose tolerance (AGT) and insulin resistanc...

Insulin resistance in polycystic ovary syndrome: progress and paradoxes.

Over the past 20 years, it has been clearly documented that 1) polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) has major metabolic sequelae related to insulin resistance and 2) insulin resistance plays an important role in the pathogenesis of the reproductive abnormalities of the disorder. Women with PCOS are at significantly increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM). Studies in isolated adip...
